This blog originated as a joking suggestion by my wife to be an outlet to share actual bruises, which are part of the practice of the gentle art that is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The purpose has shifted and is now intended to be a resource for my self and others for training, conditioning, dieting, and a way to share the experience.

It will consist of journaling, found resources, and insights ranging from those specifically related to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to art to philosophy.

About Me (4/2014)

I was nearing 40 and did not have any previous martial arts experience. I decided to pursue BJJ for self-defense, fitness, and continuing personal growth. I have been studying the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a Gracie Barra school for a little over a year now and have recently achieved the ranking of blue belt. I have noticed more and more suggestions to track the techniques and workouts to get the most out of your training.

More recently, Gracie Jiu Jitsu (http://www.GracieUniversity.com) has caught more of my attention due to its concentration on real-life self-defense and I am working to get my own training space set up and registered as a Gracie Garage.

I do want to offer my gratitude to Helio Gracie & Carlos Gracie Sr for their leadership and innovation. Also, huge thank you to all my professors, coaches, and training partners for the lessons I have learned. OSS!!
